africa » gambia
Tuesday, February 03, 2009

Local community activities and sportsmen Sidi Majubah and Allan Weston of Liverworld Community Sports, supported by councilors from Liverpool Kensington, community T venture housing, Kensington and Fairfield, voice and Liverpool Centre for Voluntary Services, are currently on a working visit to The Gambia to provide educational support to local teams in the country.

According to Mr. Sidi, their visit is geared towards promoting community cohesion between the two countries and also to promote culture.

He pointed out that currently they are working on a partnership with John Jarju, alias Ramsey, of young starlight FC at Kotu noting that in the long run they are planning to train Gambian coaches at the grassroots level in Liverpool.

Mr. Sidi stated that towards the end of next month they are planning to come back and organize a tournament for young lads in The Gambia between the ages of 18 and 21 and their counter-parts in Kensington, Fairfield, Heyton and Toxteth.

Mr. Sidi, a Sierra Leonean and former asylum seeker, has set up many community sports initiatives in Liverpool under the banner of Liverworld community sports.
