Landlord accused of stealing tenant's properties

One Lamin Sussu a tenant recently testified against his landlord, Bai Modou Camara, who was accused of stealing his properties.

Testifying before Senior Magistrate Secka of the Kanifing Magistrates Court, Sussu told the court that he was a tenant of the accused person.

According to him, on 13th June 2010 he went to Senegambia, returned at around 5 a.m. and found the door of his house broken.

Properties such as DVD player, TV and a gas bottle, a mobile phone, two pairs of shoes and palmtop DVD player with D900, and all his documents, were missing, he added.

Sussu narrated that he reported the matter to the police at around 5 a.m. when the incident happened, and further stated that he was given a note to go back at around 10 a.m. He said he was advised not to touch anything, and that his landlord was at the compound when he reported the matter to the police.

Subsequently, he added, his landlord was arrested two days later.

He adduced that he was called to the police station after the arrest of his landlord, and that he had told the police that his landlord was a prime suspect.

Sussu said that he confronted his landlord, who confessed that he stole the items.

The landlord also told the police that he kept the items at Kololi, from where some were recovered, Susso told the court.

The items recovered were the TV, the gas bottle, a bag containing two pairs of shoes, a speaker and an empty file, he added.
