League champions Kololi United were Sunday crowned champions of the Manjai Youth Development Association Sports Committee after beating knockout champions Sanchaba United by a goal to nil in the Super Cup/Alkali’s Trophy played at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda.

Ansumana Camara scored the only goal of the game for Kololi United in the 5th minute of the game from a spectacular free kick.

Winners Kololi United went home with a trophy and a cash prize of D7,000, while Sanchaba United received a consolation prize of D5,000.

Speaking to reporters shortly after the game, Pa Jarju, head coach of Kololi United, said it was a tough game because they did not watch their opponents play before the Super Cup final.

He stated that what they worked on was to ensure they did not concede a goal if they could not score during the game, adding that their opponents are a good team and that they respect them.

He said the victory would help them a lot in the nawetaan competition.

Jarju finally thanked the fans of the team for coming out in their large numbers to support them, while urging them to maintain discipline during the nawetaan competition.

Yankuba Njie, head coach of Sanchaba United, said his team had a very good form last year but noted that most of his players have transferred to other teams this year.

He said he was impressed with the performance of his boys and therefore congratulated them for putting up “a very good fight” during the game.

Even though most of his players have transferred to other teams, he would not lose confidence in approaching the Super Cup final to face Kololi United.

“We are coming with hope into the nawetaan competition,” he concluded.
