Last month, the Municipality Alkalolu responded to the statement of former mayor Yankuba Colley following his denial to the council owing them D2, 700, 000 as their annual commission covering 2015 to 2017.
Ministry of lands and regional government permanent secretary Buba Sanyang said the interim committee has proven the trust given to them by president Barrow.
He urged the council staff to be taking similar challenges and to know that they are working for themselves and the community.
He encouraged the Council’s top management to avoid the re-occurrence of such matters even if it will cost them to take action that will deter their travels on other things. “You must ensure that what is due to the Alkalolus is given to them.”
Chairman of the interim management Bakary Jammeh said Alkalolus have crucial role in communities, saying the Council will start a new process of participating in all the aspects of their job and add some other responsibilities for them as leaders and direct agents of councils.
Madi Ceesay, Serrekunda West national assembly member praised the interim management for closing the gap of debt of the 3 years arrears.
Salama Njie, acting chief executive officer of the Council assured the Alkalolus that they would try to avoid such delays in the future.
