Alkalolu of the Kanifing Municipality have responded to the statement of the former mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council, Yankuba Colley, after he claimed that the council did not owe them the sum D2, 700, 000 as thir three years annual commissions covering the periods 2015 to 2017.

The alkalolu said in a press release made available to The Point that they have high regard for the former mayor and that he should also in turn give them due respect.

They described Colley’s statement as totally irresponsive and should not have come from him.

The alkalolu said if not for anything they should be respected for the positions of trust they hold.

“It is high time people stop uttering statements that are irresponsible”, the release said, adding that people know what is true and what is not.

Meanwhile, the alkalolu thanked the interim committee of KMC under the stewardship of Bakary Jammeh for identifying their plight and addressing it by paying them D1, 000, 000 and promising to clear the balance before the end of their term.

According to them, the CEO and entire Finance Department of the council are not foolish enough to pay people monies they are not entitled to.

In conclusion the alkalolu wished the interim committee best of luck in their endeavours to bringing justice to the corridors of the council.
