West Football Club has become the first team from provincial Gambia to gain
promotion to the country’s second tier.
Kiang West, a district made up of 33 villages, secured a place in the Gambian second tier for the 2018-2019 league season following their 3-0 convincing win over Jarra Central in the Lower River Regional third division league final played at Jarra Soma Mini Stadium over the weekend.
Lamin Daffeh gave the Kiang West the lead in the first half following a spectacular tap in, and an own goal by Jarra Central player on the hour-mark, dashed Jarra Soma’s hopes of coming back to their fee.
Lamin Daffeh sealed victory after, the interval to send Kiang West to the country’s second tier for the first time in their history and also complete his brace.
Kiang West will now rub shoulders with the likes of Steve Biko and Bombada in the second division next season, as the GFF finally delivers on its promise of ensuring decentralisation in the domestic league for the first time.
