Host Kerewan Samba Sira United were forced to settle for a one-all draw by Education FC in the opening game of the village’s Noran Championship which kicked off on Saturday at the community’s football grounds in Central River Region.

Both teams put up a respectable performance in the opening 15 minutes of the game with Kerewan taking the lead through Kebba Sey in the 23rd minute but could not enjoy the lead much as Education responded 2 minutes later and levelled the tally courtesy of Bakary Nasso, who converted from the penalty spot.

The tournament, which brought together ten teams according to the Chairman of the Organising Committee Kamana Ceesay, is aimed at fostering fraternity and developing the game within the participating villages.

Ceesay hailed sponsors of the tournament Bangally Fatty and Alex Mballow (both natives of the village residing in Europe) for their gesture.

He called on other natives of the village to follow their footsteps in the development of the village.

The encounter was graced by Vice President CRR Football Committee Malang Jobateh, his Sports Technical Director Ebou Saine, among other football lovers from the area.

Meanwhile, the teams which registered for the competition are: Kerewan Samba Sira United, Competing Boys FC, Exodus FC, Taifa FC, YBK FC, Bioram FC, Sinchu Bamba FC, Sara Futa FC, Dalegas FC and Old Hands FC.
