of Gambia’s finest professional golfers Dodou Kassama has lifted his third
Gambia Open Golf tournament crown at the Fajara golf course.
Kassama, who won the 2014 and 2016 Gambia Golf Association, organised by Gambia Opens was declared winner of the 2019 edition on Sunday and received a cash prize of 50, 000 dalasis and a trophy.
The tournament, which was held from February 19th to 24tth brought together golfers from The Gambia, Senegal, England and Sweden, among others. Another Gambian professional golfer Edi Jammeh finished second and received 25, 000 dalasis.
Professional golfer Yusupha Tamba and Senegalese professional golfer Matalibe Diop had a tie in the third position.Lamin Jammeh, also a Gambia professional golfer took fifth position.
In the ladies amateur category, C. Diouf emerged winner while N. Faye occupied second position. Mariama Jallow came out third while Esther Wabh finished fourth position.
Alasan Jallow was declared winner in the men category 1 and Vimal Shah took second while Toni Jatta occupied the third position. Mike Tomlinson secured fourth, A. Kane fifth and Any Robeman and Hassan Chouman to sixth and seventh positions.
In the men category 2, Glyn Dean finished winner while Keith Deathride secured the runner-up prize. John Kibblewight walked away with the third place prize while Will Ike secured fourth position. Carl Semon, Joe Turner and Ugo Opiah finished fifth, sixth and seventh positions respectively.
Meanwhile, The Gambia Golf Association paid out one hundred and seventy-five thousand worth of cash prizes as well as other prizes such as trophies, bags of rice, vouchers among others to deserving winners.
This year’s sponsors included The Gambia National Olympic Committee, Lady Njameh Jawara, Lady Chilel Jawara, Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, Ebrima Jawara, Anthony Tabbal, Ram Mohan, among others.
