Omar A. Jallow of The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) confessed before the Truth,
Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC), his participation in the
killings of 30 Ghanaians who were travelling as migrants.
He admitted that he had also participated in the killing of Haruna Jammeh.
“On July 2005, I was on my guard post at Kanilai, where I was told to go to Banjul with Malick Jatta, Solo Bojang, Alieu Jeng and Tumbul Tamba to pick 30 Ghanaians and transport them to Cassamace.”
The witness said, former President Yahya Jammeh ordered the assassination of the Ghanaians, adding that he was there with Kawsu Camara alias Bombardier, Bai Lowe, Musa Badjie, Landing Tamba, Sana Manjang, Solo Bojang, Alieu Jeng and Buba Jallow, a driver.
Upon arrival at the assassination ground in Cassamace, the witness said he was transporting victims around the firing well, while Malick Jatta and Sana Manjang did the shootings.
He disclosed that the last victim of the massacred Ghanaians gave him 100 Euros, telling him he knew that he would die and there was no need keeping the money. The victim further requested to be given time to pray before he was shot by Sana Manjang. He said he (Jallow) spent the said money given to him by the victim.
On Haruna Jammeh’s death, Jungler Jallow said Haruna was arrested and detained at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) where he (Jallow), Sana Manjang, Alieu Jeng and Solo Bojang picked him and took him to Kanilai.
“On our way to Kanilai, we drove through the bush and Sana Manjang brought out a rope and asked me and Alieu Jeng to tie it on Haruna’s neck. We did and he asked us to pull the rope, which we did, and he (Sana) stamped him on his neck and he died.”
He further confessed that Haruna was their friend and they used to eat with him in his house, adding the order was from Yahya Jammeh.
He also admitted torturing Imam Baba Leigh and Ba Kawsu Fofana with his colleagues: Amadou Badjie, Pa Sanneh, Saikuba Jarju, Fansu Nyabally, Michael Jatta, Momodou Jarju, Nuha Badjie and Saul Sambou.
