Jungler’ Ismaila Jammeh of The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) yesterday disclosed before the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) that he participated to the killing of Almamo Manneh and the arrests of Tamsir Jassey, Landing Sanneh and Vincent.

He said Almamo Manneh was allegedly involved in a coup plot in 2000 with Landing Sanneh, Vincent and others, while adding that Musa Jammeh ordered for the arrest of soldiers who were involved.

He explained that Almamo had a meeting with other soldiers to draw their coup plan, saying that he, former president, Yahya Jammeh, former Interior minister Ousman Sonko and Buba Jammeh gathered to listen to an audio recording of the meeting of the coup plot.

During the operation, he said: “I and my colleagues left Kanilai with our weapons at night, heading to Bond Road in Banjul, where Ousman Sonko called Almamo for them to meet. At Bond Road, we were hidden in the mangroves, while Ousman Sonko was on the highway waiting.”

He added that when Almamo arrived, he was told he was under arrest, saying Almamo insulted them so harsh and opened fire, and they also fired back but he said they didn’t know who among them shot him to death. He admitted that all of them participated in the killing because they both fired.

Testifying on the case of Landing Sanneh, he said they surrounded his compound while he (Sanneh) was heard calling for cover up at Denton Bridge.

He said Sanneh threw a grenade in front and ran to the back door but he was arrested by other soldiers that had mounted at the back and taken to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) headquarters.

On Ndure Cham’s incident, he said, they went to arrest him but he wasn’t around, adding that they arrested a young boy who was found drawing a pistol and Tamsir Jassey, who were told to give Ndure Cham D5000 to leave the country.

“When we went to arrest Jassey, I went at the other side of the compound and climbed to the wall. I saw a taxi with full speed coming to rescue Jassey but I fired once to stop him. We arrested him and handed him to the NIA.”

He testified that his group consists of Sana Manjang, Malick Jatta, Michael Jatta, Alieu Jeng and Tumbul Tamba, adding that they tortured Faring Sanyang, Pierre Mendy, Yahya Darboe and Bunja Darboe, that he had participated in the torturing.

Answering questions of the lead counsel, Essa Faal, on the death of Daba Marena, Manlafi Corr and others, the witness said he was part of those who collected them from Mile II Central Prison to Kampanti Forest in Foni. He added that on their way to the forest, the victims’ heads were covered with nylon bags.

“When we reached at the ground, I went to urinate, while my colleagues went deep into the forest and did their operation and we returned. I never participated in the operation and I don’t know how they were killed.”

At the end of his testimony, witness said he regretted all the operations he had taken part in and asked for forgiveness from all Gambians.
