Association knockout final on Sunday after beating New Residence FC of Sami village
2-0. Alagie Bah and Ousainou Sowe scored the goals for Jokko FC.
Jokko FC went home with a giant trophy and a cash of D20, 000 while runners-up New Residence FC collected a consolation prize of D15, 000. Omar Bobb, head coach of Jokko FC said he was delighted at the triumph in their first appearance in the competition.
Mr. Bobb rated the performance of his players as very good, saying they have played to expectation as favorites to win the trophy.
He however suggested to the committee to introduce prizes for the best player of the tournament, leading goal scorer and most disciplined team as well as increase the prizes money. He also suggested to the committee to diversify the selection of players for Barra, Essau and Mayamba (BEM) zonal team as there are good players around the region.
Mustapha Kah, head coach of New Residence FC said his boys did well but were unlucky and ended up on the losing side. He described his side as a promising team, saying this was the first time some of his players were competing in the tournament.
Coach Kah said he was not very much impressed with the organisation of the final, claiming that the committee forced themselves to stage the final but were not ready.
Public relations officer of Essau Youth and Sports Development Association Abdoulie Njie said it is challenging to bring young people together but they are grateful they successfully staged the competition.
He pointed out that their aim is to upgrade the football grounds in the near future; saying provincial football is neglected by football authorities.
According to him, they only saw the country’s football governing body (GFF) officials when elections are approaching to call on provincial football bodies to unite in ensuring they are given due consideration.
