Jimara NAM, 3 others acquitted, discharged

The National Assembly Member for Jimara District, Hon. Alhagie Sowe and three others who were standing trial on assault and other charges were on Monday acquitted and discharged before Magistrate Omar Jabang of the Basse Magistrate Court.

Sara Jawo, The Gambia Democratic Congress District chairman in Jimara, councilor Ebrima Manneh, GDC constituency mobilizer and Foday Baldeh commonly known as Kalary alongside Hon. Alhagie were all acquitted and discharged by magistrate Omar Jabang.

It could be recalled that Sara Jawo, Ebrima Manneh, Foday Baldeh and Muhammed Sowe were arrested a day before the 2018 Local Government Election by police in the Upper River Region. The Jimara lawmaker was invited by officers of the Basse Police Station for questioning and later charged with assault and other charges.

Meanwhile, 12 others supporters of the opposition Gambia Democratic Congress are still standing trial at the Basse Magistrate Court on assault and other others.
