Gambia’s
senior Scorpions team captain Pa Modou Jagne said jeers from fans had made some
players not to honour the invitation to play for the national team in their
last friendly clash with Central African Republic.
Captain
Jagne was speaking to journalists after the Gambia’s 1-1 draw with Central
African Republic in an international friendly played at the Independence
Stadium in Bakau.
He
said playing for “your” country is one of the best things but fans’ behaviour
sometimes is the main reason why some players refuse to play for the country.
He however hailed Gambian fans for their
wonderful support during the last match, adding that their aim was to raise the
country’s flag high and also participate in the international competitions.
“This
kind of support from the fans is very good for the team because this will make
other players to come and play for the country”, Jagne revealed.
He
noted that support from the fans was positive for the players because it would
encourage other players to come and play for the country.
