Janjanbureh wins UNFPA sponsored football tourney

Janjanbureh District football team recently won the UNFPA sponsored regional football tournament in the Central River Region.

The football tournament was organized by UNFPA among four Districts in the Central River Region as part of the UNFPA campaign to disseminate information on family planning.

The four teams: Brikamaba, Kuntaur, Bansang and Janjanbureh participated in the tournament.

The first match was played between Brikamaba and Kuntaur with Brikamaba defeating Kuntaur by a lone goal.

The second match featured Janjanbureh against Bansang, Janjanbureh emerging winners by a lone goal resulting in Brikamaba locking horns with Janjanbureh in the final match.

In the final match, Janjanbureh took the lead when the team scored two goals in the first half but the game took a different dimension when Brikamaba came from two goals down and equalized.

Pressure from both teams to get a winner yielded no result and finally the game went into penalty shootout which saw Janjanbureh edge out Brikamaba by 4-2.

As winners, Janjanbureh went home with D7,500 whilst Brikamaba pocketed  D5,000.

Meanwhile, family planning commodities like male latex condoms were distributed during the tournament.
