Janjanbureh, Presentation wins Principal’s UBS tournament

Janjanbureh Male Upper Basic School and Presentation Female Upper Basic School were on Saturday crowned champions of the Upper Basic Schools tournament dubbed Principal’s Cup following their wins over St Mulubumbas of Basse and Tallinding Upper Basic School respectively.

In the male category, Janjangbureh Upper Basic School won their maiden National Championship following a hard fought 7-6 penalty shootout win over St Mulubumbas of BASSE after a 1-1 draw at full time.

While in the female category, The Banjul based Presentation Girls Vocational Center beat Tallinding Upper Basic School 2-0 to win the Women’s category.

The Principal’s Cup tournament which is sponsored by both Guarantee Trust Bank (GTBank) and The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) is meant to encourage the horns talents for the development of grassroots football in the country.

As winners, both Janjanbureh Male Upper Basic School and Presentation Female Upper Basic School were awarded a giant trophy and a cash prize of D15, 000 each, while the runners-ups St Mulubumbas of BASSE and Tallinding Upper Basic School were given a consolation prize of D10, 000 each.

The Principals ‘Cup which wrapped up yesterday (Sunday August 4th) when the Senior Secondary Schools category also battle it out  in both male and female.

Gambia High School was competing in both Male and Female finals categories. The perennial champions were battling it out with the fearful Brikama-based school team, Bottrop in the female category which was played as the earlier kickoff, while Nasir_Ahmadiya_Muslim_High_School also entertained Gambia High School in the Male category during the late encounter at 5pm.

The winners of this category are expected to be awarded with a giant trophy and a cash prize of D75, 000, while the runners-up will also be given a consolation prize of D50, 000.

This category is entirely sponsored by the Guarantee Trust Bank (GTBank) and all the matches of the tournament where been played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
