IRMA Nursery school holds maiden student election

IRMA Nursery school last Tuesday conducted their maiden election of head boy and girl held at the school ground at Sanchaba Sulay Jobe. 

The objective of the election was to give the school children the opportunity to be part of the school’s decision making. Two boys Alagie B. Bah and Dembo Senghore contested for the head boy position and Alagie B. Bah emerged winner with 20 votes while Dembo Senghore scored 13 votes. The position of head girl was also contested by Binta Bojang and Jainaba Jammeh as Binta Bojang emerged winner also with 20 votes while Jainaba Jammeh received 13 votes. Fatoumatta Njie was elected as disciplinary prefect and Yahya Badjie environment prefect.

Speaking after the election, Bakary Sawaneh, a parent thanked the management for introducing election system in the school which, he said shows clear democratic system of involving pupils in decision making.

He said it was amazing to see the way the pupils cast their votes for their choices, describing the election as fair and transparent. He encouraged the school children to maintain positivity and advised them to respect their head boy and girl who, he said will be between them and the school management.

Headmaster of the school Muhammad Musa said the purpose of the election was to enable the children to grow in to responsible leaders who will make informed choices and decision.
