Dutch nationals Willem and Trudie Van Honk have recently renovated the toilet
facilities of Irma Kunda Nursery School in Bakoteh Bantaba and donated some
learning materials to the school, including pencils, colors and exercise books.
Speaking at the ceremony at the school ground, Trudie Van Honk said their intervention is meant to help the children to have access to good education.
She said learning is what prepares young people to become responsible citizens, be employed and actively participate in global society activities.
“We hope that more children will come to the school. Our mission and desire for the school is to ensure that children in this area get quality and affordable education. We believe with quality education the future of the country is bright,” she said.
Her co-sponsor Willem said they are determined to give back to the children in their little ways, reassuring parents and teachers of their continued support and collaboration at all times.
Head teacher of the school Mohamed Musa called on parents to always keep their children busy at home. “I will call for a PTA meeting to discuss with parents about the way forward of the nursery school. We have noticed that the school has lost quality over the years but we will revive that by starting to keep the pupils on extra classes,” he disclosed.
Fatoumatta Sambou, a parent expressed overwhelming delight to the sponsors and the teachers for the support they have been rendering to their children and assured them of her family’s continued support.
