Mballow, the minister of the Interior has called on Gambians to refrain from
tribalism and to work towards the development of the country, saying tribalism
deters a country’s progress.
“My intention as a minister is to ensure that peace and stability continue to prevail in the country,” he said. “We will do everything possible in ensuring that the country remains peaceful at all time and also to provide effective and efficient work place for the security under my ministry.”
Mr. Mballow made this remarks recently while speaking to different security apparatus as well as community leaders across the country during his ongoing familiarisation tour. The tour was meant to enable him get first hand information on the challenges confronting the security officers as well discuss with communities the significance of peace with a view to strengthen security-civic relationship.
Interior Minister Mballow said it’s of paramount significance for security apparatus and the populace to refrain from tribalism. He called on the security to deter from being members of social media groups who are propagandists and d subversive, while challenging them to be apolitical in order to enable them execute their duties effectively.
“As securities in the country, we have to work together as one big family; as our aim and objective remains the same.” He added they will not allow any individual or political party to interfere in the execution of their duties, while urging them to work diligently as we are now in the new dispensation.
He called on the civilian population to continue to support the securities and work side by side with them. The maintenance of peace and stability in the country, he went on, is a collective responsibility from all Gambians and non-Gambians residing in the country. “The security will no longer infringe on your rights and the era of arbitrary arrest, unlawful detentions and torture is a thing of past.”
He added that the ministry will not allow anything that will jeopardize the peace and stability that the country has been enjoying.
