On the 24TH May 2019, the associate coordinator of the institute for the advancement of children’s rights (IACR) Charles Degold Gomez, represented Guest Speaker Barrister Malick H.B Jallow the founder and president of the institute for the advancement of children’s rights to deliver a talk on the Theme; MITIGATING JUVENILE DELINQUENCY THROUGH SOCIAL ORIENTATION” The event held at the UTG faculty of Law was organized by the UTG Student Services Learning Association (ISSLA), a body established by the Late Dr. Saja Taal, former senior political science lecturer at the UTG, in commemoration of the 10th year anniversary of the association since inception in 2009.
Speaking on behalf of Barrister Jallow, Charles Degold Gomez highlighted the need for a preventive strategy to tackle the root causes of juvenile delinquency such as provision of access to quality education, effectively utilizing both conventional and non-conventional entry points.
Other speakers at the event included Dr. Ismaila Ceesay Senior Political Science lecturer UTG, Madam Fatou Kine Jagne psychology lecturer at the UTG and Mr. Salieuu Taal, president of the Gambia Bar Association.
IACR was established in December 2013 by the Gambian Lawyer Malick H.B. Jallow Esq. who is also the President of the Institute. The IACR is a non-governmental, non-profit, impartial and non-partisan organization with a mandate to promote and protect the rights of children in Gambia through the provision of legal support and assistance to indigent children in conflict with the law.
