A serious inferno on Monday has left the Keita Kunda family compound in Jeshwang devastated after colossal households materials perished in the fire. The incident, according to the landlord Karafa Keita, occurred when he and his wife were both out of the compound and children were in school.

He said he received a phone call from his wife’s sister informing him that their entire house was burnt to ashes.

Mr. Keita disclosed that their entire household properties were destroyed by the fire, including food, five 24 inches flat screens, building materials, 10 bags of rice, 4,000 Euros and 8, 500 US Dollars.

The cause of the fire outbreak could not be established. However, many blamed the Serrekunda fire fighters for what they called their negligence of duty.

He said neighbours had called the Serrekunda firefighters, who were the nearest station, but they were told by men on duty that there was no water in their tanks. “They had to call Kotu and Banjul who came and found that everything was destroyed.”

Mr. Keita’s wife, Sutay Sonko said she lost everything in her room from the fire, which she said, occurred when she went to GRA to transact her TIN certificate.

She however thanked neighbors for their swift intervention in providing support to put-off the fire.

A neighbour, Ablie Manneh, who was part of those who helped to put off the inferno, expressed sympathy with the affected family, acknowledging that it was a great lost to the family.
