‘I didn’t see Solo Sandeng anymore after Lamin Darboe took him’

Mbemba Camara, the 13th prosecution witness, yesterday told the High Court presided over by Justice Kumba Sillah-Camara that after Lamin Darboe came and took Solo Sandeng, he didn’t see him anymore.

The witness made this revelation during the criminal trial involving nine former officials of the National Intelligence Officers in the erstwhile Jammeh regime.

The witness said he saw Solo Sandeng twice on April 14, 2016, adding that Babucarr Sallah and Tamba Mansary were the people who took Solo Sandeng for the time whilst Lamin Darboe came to collect him the second time and he never saw him anymore.

The witness revealed that when Solo Sandeng was taken for the second time, he was very tired and he didn’t see him until when one Bala Gaye, an NIA official called him on the cell phone requesting him to come.

Mbemba Camara said upon arrival, he met Bala Gaye at the security room and saw something lying on a mattress, covered with bedsheet.

Mbemba Camara further said he observed that the thing was motionless and thereafter he went back to his duty post at the main gate of the NIA.

He narrated that upon his arrival at his duty post, he informed his boss, James Mendy what he saw at the security room then James Mendy and himself left for the security room.

The witness disclosed that at the security room, they met Bala Gaye and they looked the thing at the mattress and left.

He said thereafter James Mendy went and called Sheikh Omar Jeng who also went to look at the thing on the mattress.

The witness further said Shekh Omar Jeng later called Babucarr Sallah and Tamba Mansary who were coming from Atlantic Hotel and upon their arrival they went behind the NIA back gate and he followed them.

The witness who said it was during the wee hours, remarked that it was dark though he couldn’t recognised all the people. But he said he saw Sheikh Omar Jeng, Babucarr Sallah, Tamba Mansary, Yusupha Jammeh, Lamin Darboe and Lamin Bojang went into the security room and took the thing lying on the mattress.

He pointed out that they brought a white coloured pick up vehicle and carried the thing and put it in the vehicle and drove off through the back gate.

Asked to describe how the thing looks like, the witness said the thing he saw has hands, legs, head, ear, eyes and looks like a human being which he later recognised.

It could be recalled that the accused persons:Yankuba Badjie, Luoie Richard Leese Gomez, Sheikh Omar Jeng, Babucarr Sallah, Yusupha Jammeh, Haruna Susso, Tamba Mansary, Lamin Darbope and Lmin Lang Sanyang are being tried on 26 counts including Conspiracy to murder, Murder, Assault causing grievous bodily harm amongst others.
