right procedures from the ministry before embarking on any health assistance in
Dr. Isatou Touray was speaking recently at Sanyang, Kombo South, as part of her nationwide visit to health facilities around the country.
She underscored the importance of following right formalities and procedures by philanthropists, saying these are all geared towards ensuring effective health service delivery.
She made reference to similar issue which prompted her ministry’s intervention between Sanyang Major Referral Health Centre and Amigos De Gambia, a charitable organisation from Spain.
“Let us be aware that there are laws and procedures that need to be followed by any person or a philanthropist who wants to help improve the health sector of the country before taking any health operational activity which might unknowingly harm the sector. We are not discouraging partners in the sector, but any formal process that is required has to be taken first before doing any health service to our local communities,” she advised.
Minister Touray thus thanked the Spanish charity -Amigos De Gambia for their efforts towards improving the country’s health sector.
Responding to concerns raised by the officer-in-charge of the health center on the issue of maintenance and fuelling of the village ambulance, Dr. Touray assured of her ministry’s resolve to solve the difficulties faced by the health facility especially fuelling to ensure timely referrals.
“The issue of patients financing their own referrals by buying fuel for the ambulance is a concern to the ministry and this is why I have delegated the regional health director to forward any complaints to my ministry for a final solution to the problem,” she said
