Handball Association Secretary General Haruna Cham said they are weighing up a
decision to take legal action against the National Sports Council (NSC) for
dissolving the Association.
NSC chairman Borrie Darboe told the Standard Newspaper that the decision to dissolve the Association came to them as the only logical conclusion to address the long standing upheaval within the body which is characterized by accusations and counter accusations that made the body unworkable.
But Mr. Cham denied the claims in an interview with the Point, saying that the Handball Association is cleaner than the NSC. He said it is NSC that needs to be dissolved because they are not fit to run the affairs of the office.
He expressed disappointment with the NSC decision, saying they were ready to stage their congress but the NSC came to the congress with their own agenda and declared the Association dissolved.
He said they do not recognise the NSC decision because it was baseless and will continue to operate. “NSC chairman does not deserve his post and if he is trying to make a name for himself by dissolving the Handball Association, then he will fail. Borry tried to bring down the Football Association and failed and will also fail with us,” he said.
Mr. Cham said NSC’s task should be to know the Association’s challenges and trying to help them overcome them and not to bring them down when they are trying to contribute to the development of the nation.
