United Wednesday defeated Lions of Banjul 1-0 in the week-five fixture of the
second division tier played at the KG5 Mini Stadium in Banjul to keep their top
flight promotion hopes alive.
The Gunjur-based club, who lose two games in a row against Sporting Real 2-1 and Serrekunda East Bi 1-0 now beat Red Hawks 1-0 to bounce back in the second tier last week following their slumping performances in their previous league matches.
The Banjul-based club lost to Second Infantry Battalion 2-0 and Immigration 1-0 prior to their battle with Gunjur United after winning their two opening league matches.
Gunjur United sealed the vital three points after netting a single goal in the match to maintain their first division promotion hopes alive.
The defeat was Lions of Banjul’s third consecutive beating in the second tier after losing to Second Infantry Battalion, Immigration and Gunjur United in their last league outings.
The win earned Gunjur United third- place in the second division league with 7 points after five league matches, two points behind first and second-place Sporting Real and Serrekunda East Bi with 9 points each.
Lions of Banjul has secured 6 points in five league matches after winning two matches and lose three.
