United have defeated Brufut United 2-0 in the all-West Coast Region derby clash
played at the Box Bar Mini Stadium in Brikama on Friday to maintain their top
flight promotion aspirations alive.
The Gunjur-based football club was two places above safety in the second tier with 9 points prior to their encounter with Brufut United, who are among the teams fighting for promotion to the first division next season with 17 points. Gunjur United dominated Brufut in the game and created some goal scoring opportunities.
Striker Karim Chorr, alias Benzema gave Gunjur United the lead in the first half from a penalty spot after Brufut United’s player handled the ball inside the area to fire home the opener.
Midfielder Dodou Sambou, alias Master netted the second goal for Gunjur United after the interval, which eventually proved to be the winner for the Gunjur-based football club.
Brufut United responded quickly for an equaliser but couldn’t break through Gunjur United’s formidable defence line thus the game ended 2-0 in favour of Gunjur United.
Gunjur has now secured 12 points in eleven league matches and Brufut United with 17 points in eleven league matches.
