Gunjur triumphs over 2nd Infantry Battalion

Gunjur United Friday beat Second Infantry Battalion 3-2 in the week-nine fixture played at the Jarra-Soma Mini Stadium to clasped third-spot in the 2018-2019 Gambia Football Federation (GFF) second division league standings.

The Gunjur-based team needed maximum points to close gap on league leaders Sporting Real and second-place Waa Banjul to increase their hopes of gaining promotion to the premier league next season.

They claimed the vital three points through the goals from winger Bubacarr Demba alias Ozil and 2016 Super Nawettan best player Salifu Bojang alias Bapa.

The win earned Gunjur United third-place in the second tier with 15 points in nine league matches and four points behind of second-place Waa Banjul, who gasped 19 in nine league matches.

Immigration defeated Young African 1-0 at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium while Brufut United drew goalless with Jambanjelly United at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium.

Kiang West edged-past Bombada 2-1 at the Jarra-Soma Mini Stadium while Steve Biko beat Red Hawks 1-0 at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium.

Serrekunda East Bi drew 1-1 with Sporting Real at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.
