Monday, March 15, 2010

Abdou Manjang, the Physical Education Teacher for Gunjur Upper Basic School, the winners of the 2010 Trust Bank sponsored Inter-Schools Athletics Championship held at the Independence Stadium over the weekend has expressed confidence that his school will defend their title next year.

Manjang backed his statement stating that he is scouting other young athletes who are very good.

He thanked the athletes for their hard work during the Inter-School Championship and for crowning the school for their first-ever Inter-School Championship title.

He said: "We are very joyful this time around because this is our first time to take first position since this Inter-School Athletics Championship started."

He also stated that he has always been encouraging the athletes, who have fulfiled their promise.

Kaddy Touray, a national athlete from Gunjur Upper Basic School who took first position in the 1, 500-meter race for the Upper Basic Schools, said it was her second time to partake in the Inter-School Athletics Championship.

According to Kaddy, last year she represented The Gambia in the Zone II in Mali where she won a medal after taking first position.
