Gunjur dismantle SK Central as relief in Super Nawettan

The 2016 Super Nawettan champions Gunjur on Wednesday defeated whipping boys Serrekunda Central 3-0 in their group A fixture played at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda to their relief in the 2017 Fibank Gambia Limited-sponsored Super Nawettan.

The champions Gunjur came into the game with one point, after their goalless draw with Bakau in the opening game played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Sunday prior to the Wednesday clash with Serrekunda Central, who also came into the match with no point after their first game with Lamin was called off on Monday due to referees’ strike.

Gunjur opened the scores with the 2016 Super Nawettan top scorer Mbemba Fatty, alias, Iniesta, after the interval from Adama Bangura’s excellent effort to fire home the opener for the champions after a deadlock in the first half.

Moment, later Gunjur found themselves 2-0 ahead mid-away into the second half through Mbemba Fatty, alias Iniesta again as he netted the second goal to complete his brace.

Substitute Lamin Jallow, alias Sako notched in the third goal in the dying minutes to propel Gunjur to a convincing 3-0 win over whipping boys Serrekunda Central.

Serrekunda Central responded quickly for an equalizer but to no avail, thus the game ended 3-0 in favour of the champions Gunjur.

Bakau beat Lamin 1-0 in the other group A clash played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.

Brikama also defeated debutants Foni 1-0 in their group B encounter played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium.

Elsewhere, last year’s Super Nawettan runners-up Banjul drew goalless with Manjai, at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium on the same day.

The champions Gunjur are leading group A with 4 points plus three goals after their resounding 3-0 win over Serrekunda Central and goalless draw against Bakau.

Bakau are second in group A with 4 points, after their slender 1-0 victory over Lamin and the stalemate against Gunjur.

Lamin and Serrekunda Central are occupying second-place from bottom and bottom respectively in group A with zero point, after losing to Lamin and Gunjur.

Brikama are leading group B with maximum three points, following their hard-fought 1-0 win over debutants Foni.

Banjul and Manjai are occupying second and third places with one point each, after their goalless draw in their opening group matches.

Matches continue, today, Friday 20 October 2017. Lamin will meet Gunjur at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium.

Elsewhere, Bakau will take on Serrekunda Central at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium.
