Community Football Academy claimed the first edition of peace and unity
football carnival held on Sunday at the town’s biggest sporting arena, Gunjur
Nyamina Football Field.
The theme for the daylong football gala was peace and unity, which saw brilliant exhibition of skills and talents by participating academies, attracted multitude of spectators from Gunjur and its environs for the weekend’s biggest football jamboree.
Gunjur Community Football Academy beat Faith plus Sport Football Academy 2-1 on penalties in the U-9 category, after goalless a draw in regulation time.
Gunjur Community Football Academy U-20 thumped their opponents Faith plus Sport Football Academy 2-0. Ba-Alieu Kunta netted a brace for Gunjur Community Football Academy in the 15th and 22nd minutes of the game.
In the U-12 category, Gunjur Community Football Academy thrashed Faith Plus Sport Academy on the same score-line, Bubacarr Janneh notched in a brace for Gunjur Community Football Academy in the 22nd and 26th minutes of the game.
While Faith Plus Sport Football Academy U-15 defeated their counterparts Gunjur Community Football Academy 1-0, Yusupha Touray alias Oufo was on target for Faith Plus Sport Academy in the second half.
At the end of the football carnival, trophies and medals were awarded to the outstanding players and several persons for their contribution towards the success of the competition.
