GTB Opens 10th Branch at Bundung

africa » gambia
Thursday, March 12, 2009

In its quest to continue the expansion of it services, Guaranty Trust Bank (Gambia) Ltd, Gambia's Bank of The Year 2008 has opened a new branch at Bundung. The opening of Bundung Branch has now brought the bank's branch network to "TEN" whichpositions GTBank as the second largest bank network in The Gambia rated by the number of operating branches. The branch which is situated at Bundung, adjacent to Boutique Yassin, bears the features of a modern banking structure comprising of a spacious parking area and spacious banking hall staffed with well trained and customer- driven officers ready to add value to your businesses.

The choice of location of the branch "Bundung" reflects GTBank's policy to make banking accessible to all Gambians regardless of geographical location as opposed to the trend which largely reflects the fact that most financial institutions concentrate in 'comfort zones'.  Furthermore, the informal sector activities increasingly continue to take a central role in The Gambia's economy. This inevitably requires banks to expand services to non-traditional market segments and GTBank has taken leadership role in that effect.

According to the Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank Mr. Lekan Sanusi, "GTBank's ultimate objective is to make banking accessible to all and sundry. We want to be synonymous with The Gambia and to achieve that, we have to be relevant in size by positioning our branches in all major towns and settlements". This he said could be daunting but achievable in a foreseeable future.

As the bank clocks seven years of existence on the 5th March 2009 in The Gambia, GTBank has established itself as the third largest bank in balance sheet and the second largest in terms of branch network. Its head office located along

Kairaba Avenue
, GTBank has NINE other branches located in Banjul, Serekunda, Senegambia, Brikama, Bamboo, Kanifing, Latrikunda Sabiji, Brusubi and now in Bundung. The phenomenal growth in branch expansion stemmed out of customers' strong demand for the unparallel services of GTBank.

The bank's wide portfolio of products and services include GT Orange savings Account, Smart Kids Save, (a product designed to nurture the savings habit among children), GTB Bankers Acceptance, Internet Banking and Max Advance (a salary based credit facility). The bank has also installed four ATM machines at its Kairaba Avenue Head Office, Senegambia branch, Serekunda branch and AfricellBuilding along

Kairaba Avenue
. As the bank continues to set benchmark initiatives, GTBank has also introduced Point Of Sales Terminal (POS) available at Harry's Supermarket, KairabaShopping Center, Butchers Restaurant, Sultan Sweets Restaurants, Stop Step Pharmacy & Stores and Timbooktoo Bookstores. Both the ATM and the PoS currently accept the bank's local card 'Cashplus Card'.

Early this year, GTBank made history as the first financial institution in The Gambia to obtain the approval of the Visa International in South Africa to be licensed as a 'Principal' member of the exclusive club of Visa banks and agents. The Bank is currently working on the implementation of the technical requirements of this initiative.
