Secondary School Sports Association (GSSA) will award D100, 000 to the winner
of the 2019 national inter-schools athletics champions. Runners- up will pocket
D50, 000 and third-place holder will receive D25, 000 while the winner for the
Upper Basic School category will bag D50, 000.
The first runners- up will receive D25, 000 and second runners- up will get D15, 000.
The Association’s executives and Gambia Teachers Union Cooperative Credit Union GTUCCU recently signed a sponsorship deal to bankroll the annual inter-schools athletics championship.
Ismaila Ceesay, president of GSSA said they are not going to tolerate indiscipline during the championship, adding that they have printed their laws and passed them to the participating schools. He stated that coaches are also not allowed inside the field during the events this year and urged all principals to purchase jerseys for their athletes for the yearly championship. “All participants will be issued with cards and their picture on them.”
Secretary General Lamin Jammeh said they started regional heats in Farafenni with 32 schools and 29 schools in Basse.
Jammeh stated that 43 schools participated in the Brikama regional athletics heats and 48 in the Greater Banjul Area for Upper Basic School category and 85 in the senior secondary school category. “A total of 133 schools will participate in the upcoming national inter-schools athletics championship.”
