Swimming Association (GSA) is soliciting from the Government of The Gambia
through the Ministry of Youth and Sports to compete in the 14th FINA World
Swimming Championship to be hosted in Hangzhou, China. The championship will
run from December 11 to 16.
This year’s edition will be the third appearances for The Gambia in the global biggest swimming competition since making their debut in 2014 in Doha, Qatar.
Vice President and technical of the Association Lt. Habiballaah Jeng, said the national team has being training intensively at QCity Sports Complex shortly after they concluded their Regional Open Water Swimming Competition.
“Around one thousand elite athletes from 170 countries, thousands of visitors, spectators and international media representatives will take part in the championship. So it is very important for The Gambia to participate,’’ Jeng said.
He said the Association is currently working with four swimmers for the championship; two male and two female with the hope of getting support from the government for their trip to China.
Mr. Jeng called on the government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports to provide the association with funds.. He expressed optimism that government will render support to the association for their participation in the championship.
FINA World Aquatics Convention will be held in Hangzhou from December 8 to 10. The forum will provide a platform for the global Aquatics family to network, share best practice and encourage greater engagement in Aquatic sport.
