group of philanthropists have donated several boxes of books to the Bakoteh
Lower Basic and Nurat Senior Secondary schools in honour of the murdered
Gambian opposition activist Solo Sandeng.
The late Ebrima Solo Sandeng was the former chairman of the parent teachers committee at both schools before his murder in 2016. He was an executive member of the now ruling coalition member, the United Democratic Party (UDP) as national organising secretary.
“Until his death in a noble cause to liberate The Gambia from dictatorship, Mr. Sandeng was not only a politician but an educationist who devoted part of his life to empower school going children,” Mr. Suntou Touray, a Gambian diplomat said.
He and Jafara Sillah believed that Mr. Sandeng’s goodwill gestures should be continued. “His legacy should always be complimented,” they added, and hence donating books to the Bakoteh Lower Basic school and to the children of late Solo Sandeng and Solo Krumang.
Nyima Sandeng, widow of the late Solo Sandeng made the presentation to the beneficiaries, accompanied by Ebrima Sanneh, Tafa Ceesay, Muhammed Fatty, AnsumanaTouray, Jali Mama Sisawo, Sanna Fatty and others were present to witnesses to the event.
The school’s principals expressed delight at the gesture.
