officials of The Gambian Revenue Authority (GRA) including the commissioner
general have retuned home after attending the 5th African Tax
Administration’s (ATAF) General Assembly in Botswana.
The conference was held on the theme: ‘Moving Africa Beyond Aid Through Tax Revenue Mobilization.’
Malamin Jatta, Tax manager, who doubles as the ATAF country correspondent, explained that the ATAF General Assembly started with meetings of its technical committee. He added that this year, it started with the committees on Cross Border Taxation (CBT), Exchange of Information and VAT, which were later followed by the Council of ATAF and Donor Consultation meetings.
He disclosed that, Yankuba Darboe, the commissioner general of GRA, who was also a panelist made an impressive presentation on New Challenges and New Opportunities and Improving Voluntary Compliance in Africa.
Mr. Jallow used the opportunity to thank ATAF for supporting that event, and for also ensuring that The Gambia participated in the event. He also commended The Gambian government for allowing GRA officials participate in the event.
The conference brought together heads and senior officials of African Tax Administrations and ministries of finance, representatives of international and continental organisations and development partners, as well as those from the private sector and academic institutions working in the tax arena.
