Press Union (GPU) is bracing up for the maiden edition of inter-media house
football tournament which will bring together media houses within the Greater
Banjul Area, aimed at encouraging membership into the Union.
The union was established in 1978 by a group of journalists, led by veteran Gambian journalist and publisher William Dixon Colley, Deyda Hydara, Melvin B. Jones and Pap Saine, with the objective to fight for freedom of expression, freedom of the press and the advancement of the media to enhance the development of the nation. Eight media houses will participate in the tournament which will kick-off next month.
In an interview with The Pointsports, head of Gambia Press Union (GPU) tournament organizing committee Binta Bah said the championship is meant to unify media houses in the country. “Gambia Press Union (GPU) is happy to be associated with Sports Journalists Association The Gambia (SJAG) to stage football tournament for media houses in the country,” Ms. Bah said.
