The Gambia Police Force (GPF) Tuesday validated their five-year strategic plan for the first time at Paradise Suites Hotel in Kololi.

The Force Commissioner of Policy and Planning Ebrima Bah said the idea of commissioning the strategic plan emanated from the Inspector General of Police. “The review and validation of a policy document of this magnitude is happening for the first time as far The Gambia Police Force is concerned,” he said.

He said the validation shows that the Police Force is moving in the right direction, adding that an organization or institution without well-planned policy guidelines and strategic framework will not achieve its ultimate objectives.

Landing Kinteh, Inspector General of Police said the Police is in an era of innovative policing, saying development of the strategic plan is anchored on the need to provide strategic guidance for the enhancement of administrative and operational capabilities to meet current and future challenges. “Citizens are demanding more from service providers including the police. Advancement in science and technology is posing new challenges to the police globally as evidenced in the new trend of crimes,” he added.

He said criminal activities are becoming more complex and diverse and these new crime trends undoubtedly put the police under increasing pressure to employ new strategies in crime prevention.

Interior Minister Ebrima Mballow said Government’s most important aspiration is to ensure the right execution of the rule of law, protect lives and properties and consolidate national unity.

He noted that peace, security and stability are the foundation for investment and trade throughout the world but added that despite challenges in their maintenance, there should be no complacency in the enormous task that face the security. “This document is developed in line with the National Development Plan (NDP) and programmes to ensure a stable and peaceful domestic environment while supporting international and regional initiatives for peace.”

He said the document is a strategic plan that reflects the basic foundation of which The Gambia Police Force is responsible for such as protection against and investigations of crime, maintenance of law and order, combating crimes and policing and traffic management.
