The Gambia government through the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology has closed six tertiary education and vocational training centres with immediate effect, The Point has gathered.

A statement issued by the Higher Education Ministry recently, said the ministry has closed International Business College (located in Kotu South), ITS-IT & Business Management School (Off Kairaba Avenue), Omar Drammeh Memorial Skills Training Centre (Ebo Town), Good Citizen Institution (Siffoe), West African Chartered College (Kanifing Layout), and Batokunku Nursing Training School (Batokunku).

In the statement, the ministry said the institutions were closed “following a series of efforts by the National Training Authority (NTA) to ensure that they comply with the regulations governing standards and quality required for their continued operation.”

However, the learning centres “failed to comply with such regulations” prompting the revocation of their licences by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, acting in its capacity as the line institution of the NTA and in accordance with the National Training Authority Act.

The ministry said the six tertiary education and vocational training centres will remain closed “until they fully comply with the standard regulations to operate.”
