The
Gambia government has accepted the causes in relation to death, injuries and
destruction of properties at Faraba Banta on 18th of June 2018, according to
the Faraba Banta report.
The
government accepts the recommendations of the commission in this regard as
contained in the report, and has consequently taken measures such as: the
appropriate criminal prosecutions be continued against ASP Musa Fatty, PC Musa
Badjie, PC Nuha Colley, and 1st Class Momodou Z. Jallow, and Spt. Babucarr Cham
for the deaths of Bakary Kujabi, Ismaila Bah and Amadou Jawo, all of whom
perished from gunshot wounds.
“As
established by the Coroner; that criminal prosecutions be initiated against all
the perpetrators identified in the report for the willful destruction of
properties and other related crimes in Faraba Banta; The Gambia Police Force
has been directed to conduct criminal investigations into the killings,
injuries, and destruction of properties for the purpose of prosecuting the
alleged perpetrators of the crimes within the shortest possible time;
compensation to be paid by the state to the families of those who died, and
those who sustained serious injuries; those who lost their properties as a result
of the vandalism and arson. are to be compensated by the state; a Faraba Banta
compensation committee (FBCC) comprising the permanent secretaries of the
ministries of Interior, Local Government and the Environment has been
established under the joint chairmanship of the solicitor general and the
permanent secretary of the ministries of justice and finance respectively to
handle all compensation claims as recommended by the commission.”
