Goudi Samdi one year anniversary

On May 14th and 15th the country will witness another milestone in the entertainment industryas GRTS Goudi Samdi celebrates its first year anniversary.

Formerly known as "Wahtu Artist Yi", the popular week-end television entertainment programme has brought about many changes in the local music industry and has contributed a lot in upgrading Gambian artistes.

The programme is aired on GRTS televsion every Saturday night and is officially sponsored by Coco-Cola.

Speaking in an interview with Entertainment recently Ms Fatou Touray presenter of the Goudi Samdi programme said the main aim of the anniversary celebration is to raise funds with which to provide more music instruments for the programme. Ms Touray further explained that the celebration of the anniversary will start today at Brikama Jokor with the Senegalese artiste Assan Njie as the guest performer.

Tomorrow Saturday the programme will be staged at the Jama Hall at Kairaba Beach Hotel featuring Assan Njie alongside top Gambian artistes such as Jaliba Kuyateh among others.

"When we started the Goudi Samdi programme I realized that more Gambian artistes are coming up." She lamented that the main challenge affecting the programme is the lack of music instruments, noting that this has hindered the performance of most artistes during the live programmes on GRTS. "We want a proper standard to be set up for the programme," she said. "As a Gambian I think I really need to play my part and to contribute for the development of broadcasting in the country," she continued.

In conclusion, Ms Tourary thanked the Gambian leader, the Director General of GRTS and all those who contributed either in cash or kind to the success of the anniversary celebration.

She also sent a special "thank you" to the main sponsor of this programme Coco-Cola. The programme is expected to be graced by the Minister of Tourism and Culture Fatou Mass Jobe and is dedicated to Aja ida Faye Hydara, Executive Director of the Women's Bureau and Ndey Awa Khan Ceesay, President of the Fashion Designers Association among others.
