GNOC to celebrate Commonwealth Day today

The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) will today join the Commonwealth of Nations to celebrate Commonwealth Day under the theme 'Sport Your Trainers Day', a GNOC press release sent at the weekend to Pointsport has revealed.

The event is aimed at encouraging people across The Gambia to change their lifestyles, to think about how they can live a healthier and more active lifestyle that will make a huge difference in their health and overall wellbeing leading to the pathway to a healthier future.

The full text of the release is as follows:  The Gambia National Olympic Committee will join the Commonwealth of Nations to celebrate Commonwealth Day under the theme Sports Your Trainers, on Monday 14 March 2011.

Sport Your Trainers is simply aimed at encouraging people across The Gambia to change their lifestyle, to think about how they can live a healthier and more active lifestyle which of cause will make a huge difference in their health and overall wellbeing leading to the pathway to a healthier future.

The Gambia National Olympic Committee urges everyone, from business and leaders, school children, and doctors to politicians, sports people, skilled workers, broadcasters, publishers, office workers and housewives to ditch their normal footwear and pull on their trainers for the day and join them in observing the Day.

Remember, as a catalyst for a positive change, wearing your trainers for one day is likely to encourage you to take up more exercise. You might run for a bus, a taxi rush to an appointment, or go for a walk at lunchtime whereas you probably wouldn’t in your heels.

Set those feet free, wriggle those toes. Whatever the weather strap on your usual sporting footwear at least for a day and enjoy the feeling.
