Gilkock Intervenes In Brufut Delayed Nawettan

Wednesday, September 09, 2009

The Brufut-based Gilkock Football Academy has intervened to keep Nawettan teams registered with the Brufut Youth and Sports Development Committee in preparation for the much-anticipated and lucrative Eco Bank sponsored Nawettan, Sang Mendy the PRO of the academy told this reporter.

The hope of the participating teams was dashed when Pa Bakary Gaye announced at that the draw for the 2009-10 Eco Bank sponsored Brufut Nawettan will be delayed, due to the holy month of Ramadan, according to Sang Mendy.

Sang revealed that the Technical Director of Gilkock Academy, Buba Jallow recently informed team representatives that they will organise a six-aside football tournament for teams registered with BYSDC, which will avail the teams an opportunity to be engaged in competitive football before the start of the delayed Nawettan.

He added that the six-aside football tournament will also give the teams the opportunity to test the new players in order to realise their strength and weaknesses before the summer championship in Brufut.

The reason of the academy's intervention, Sang added, is to keep players active at all times which is one of its ambitions.

He further seized the opportunity to thank the Brufut Youth and Sports Development Committee for their tireless effort in staging the six aside football tournament.

The Brufut Football Academy is preparing to do everything possible to ensure that sports developed in partnership with the committee in the area. For his part, Karamo Jarju of Comium FC used the occasion to commend Gilkock for what he described as a wonderful initiative.

He also described their academy as an academy worthy of emulation, urging his colleagues to do what it takes to prevent their players from any sort of indiscipline.

This six-aside tournament is free of charge and there will be no award at the end of the day, Pointsport was reliably informed.
