Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Thursday signed a 40 million dalasi contract
with Fenta Consultant Limited to improve over eight football playing grounds
across the country.
Signed at the Football House in Kanifing, the project that has been one of the Kabba Bajo-led executive’s visions, seeks to improve Serrekunda East and West, Manjai, Banjul, Busumbala, Brikama, Gunjur and the Goal Project football fields. It aim to build new football playing grounds and improve the already existing football ones.
GFF president Lamin Kaba Bajo said the project is important to his executive because they have the vision to build and improve playing grounds across the country.
He said this is one of the FIFA projects in The Gambia towards football development, adding that their main source of income to develop football in the country always comes from FIFA. “The pitches we are going to develop will contribute a lot to the improvement of the quality of football because playing grounds has a very good impact on the athletes,” he said, and added, “the lightening component will also allow us to maximise the usage of the few football pitches we have.”
Mr. Bajo also stated that they signed a MoU with ground owners (beneficiaries) to specify their area of operation as it is a FIFA requirement. The GFF boss also revealed that the beneficiaries are also going to be involved in the implementation of the project.
Baboucarr Semega Janneh, principal of Fenta Consulting Limited said GFF has assigned them to do the design and the project management for the uplifting and lightening of the identified playing grounds.
“The project we are doing for the GFF include football pitch and ancillary facilities at Gunjur, Busumbala, and Football Hotel in Yundum. We will also install LED lights at Serrekunda East, Serrekunda West, Banjul and Brikama football fields.” He said.
He added that the lightening installation contract for Serrekunda West and Banjul will be given to Solutions, while Serrekunda East and Brikama contract will be given to Gambia Electrical Company Limited.
Mr. Semega Janneh also said that other contracts will be awarded to Jallowkolon Construction, Smart-Tech and Peace Construction respectively.
He said Gunjur and Busumbala will be given to Jallowkolon construction, Goal Project football field to be given to Smart-Tech. He said that, the improvement project such as the Manjai field, Serrekunda East and Serrekunda West pitches will be awarded to Peace constructors to improve the technical quality of football.
