GFF 2nd division league heats up

Relegated side Samger on Friday lost to Kexx United 1- 0 in the week-one fixtures of the 2017-2018 Gambia Football Association second division encounter played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.

 The Academy boys were demoted to the second tier, after finishing bottom-place in the first tier last season and came all out to grab the vital three points but surrendered victory to the Wellingara based-football club in the opening day of the new league season.

Young Africans defeated Lions of Banjul by the same score line in the-all Banjul derby clash played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

Striker Tijan Ndong was on the score sheet for Young Africans in the second half to collect the vital three points in their opening league fixtures.

Newly-promoted Gunjur United lost to demoted side Serrekunda United 1-0 in at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium.

In other matches, Red Hawks lost to the newly-promoted Latrikunda United 1-0 at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.

Alieu Jagana was on target for the Latrikunda German-based football club in the second half.

Brufut United thumped Waa Banjul 2-0 at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium.

Brufut United, Kexx United, Latrikunda United, Young Africans and Serrekunda United have all earned 3 points each, courtesy of winning their opening league matches.

Gunjur United, Lions of Banjul, Red Hawks, Samger and Waa Banjul are yet to secure any point, after losing their opening league fixtures.
