Gambia Chess Federation is set to organise its national open Chess championship
on 29th and 30th June 2019 at the Cathedral hall independence drive in Banjul.
Registration of players for the tournament is set for Friday 28th June 2019 with the tournament set to feature both male and female players.
Players drawn from clubs across the country are expected to participate in the tournament to be coordinated by the federation’s local arbiters.
Speaking ahead of the event, GCF President Amadou Jallow urged all chess players, especially the young ones (boys and girls) who are aspiring to be national prospect to register on time for the competition.
According to him, the championship will give players better opportunity to learn the basics in Chess and expand the knowledge of FIDE rated players.
He highlighted that the Federation is working very hard in promoting the game in the country, despite their challenges, saying that the championship will be the first organised by the Federation since the country participated in last year’s Batumi Olympia in Georgia.
Mr. Jallow said plans are under way to stage other programmes to further reignite interest of Chess enthusiasts across the country.
Meanwhile, clubs are urged to regularize their status with the Federation before the start of the tournament as no player will be allowed to participate without a club.
Mr. Jallow further explained that there will be attracted prizes for winners at the end of the tournament.
