Gambia Agency for Public Works (Gamworks) has recently concluded a ten-day capacity
building training for local government officials form eight Gambian local
government administrative at the Paradise Suite Hotel in Senegambia. The
training was funded by OPEC Fund and the government of The Gambia.
The training targets to enhance management skills and knowledge of the participants’ leadership and management, financial management, financial accounting and project management.
Deputy permanent secretary of the ministry of local government, lands and regional administration Rohey Bittaye-Darboe said she was convinced that the training would enhance capacities of the local government staff in delivering on their responsibilities.
She advised participants to make best use of the knowledge gained from the training.
Sana Darboe, chief executive officer of SMD said the project which started last year was targeted to train local government authorities on leadership and management, financial management, financial accounting and project management.
Gamworks technical director Omar Gaye, the local government ministry’s permanent secretary and Jerreh Sanyang both commended Gamworks for coming up with the training.
Sanyang advised participants to ensure the maximum utility of the knowledge they have gained from the training and to share it with their respective communities.
