GAMWORKS hand over completed project

The Gambia Agency for the Management of the Public Works (GAMWORKS) recently completed the construction of a resource centre at Charles Jaw Memorial Academy, and thus handed it to the beneficiaries.

The project is a sub-project under the Civil Works component of The Gambia government/ OFID (OPFC Fund for International Development).

GAMWORKS staged a handing over ceremony on 20th March 2010, at Charles Jaw Memorial Academy in Bundung after successfully completing the work.

Speaking at the occasion, the Director General of GAMWORKS, Mr. Ebrima Cham used the occasion to express delight at the gesture.

"It is a great honour and privilege for him to say few words at this auspicious and joyous occasion in marking the handing over ceremony of the magnificent edifice."

Mr. Cham described the ceremony as yet another important milestone in the fruitful relationship between his agency and KMC.

He also harped on the long-standing cordial relation that exists between GAMWORKS and the school.

Mr. Cham further revealed that the construction of the structure costs $5.1m.

According to him, the project is aimed at improving the living standards of the urban population, especially the poor, thus providing an adequate public infrastructure and service on a sustainable basis, as well as the development of durable condition for the municipality.

GAMWORKS boss said that the project is responsible for infrastructural development, and the capacity-building component which includes the training of technical assistance and procurement of equipment for local government authorities and the local construction industry, under the civil works component.

He disclosed that there are a number of sub-projects under implementation, including the rehabilitation of streets in Banjul, the construction of number of markets nationwide.

He finally thanked the contractor Unique Vision for a job well-done and the Consultant Gam Tech. Mr. Cham.

The Deputy Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council, Mr. Yusupha Sanyang finally handed the structure to Ousman Ndow.

Mr. Ousman Ndow, a board member of the school explained that the importance of the resource centre cannot be over-emphasised, adding that there is no doubt that it will serve its rightful purpose.
