Mustapha Saidy, Malang Sowe, Bakary Bayo, Omar Mboob, Arona Jammeh, Mustapha Njie, Omar Louis, Nfally Sanyang, Anthoney Manneh, Sainey Saidykhan and Habibo Colley, all Gamwater company employees, recently sued the company at the Kanifing Industrial Tribunal, claiming the recovery of D179,080.80 being six months notice, six months redundancy allowance and underpaid leaves.

The aggrieved workers stated in their particulars of claim that they were at all material time working for the company as operators since 2006, and in February 2014, they were unlawfully declared redundant.

They revealed in the claim that they reported the matter to the Labour Department, who convened a tripartite meeting the defendant failed to attend.

They further stated in the claim that they had no other option but to take the matter to the Kanifing Industrial Tribunal to seek redress.

Garba Cham, Secretary General of The Gambia workers’ Union, represented the plaintiffs.
