coach of Gamtel Sulayman Kuyateh said his side’s early mistake in the first two
minutes led to their elimination from the CAF Champions League preliminary
round, as Algerian side CS Constantine defeated them 1-0 in a game played at
the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Wednesday.
CS Constantine scored the only goal in the match through Belkacimi in the first 2 minutes of the match leaving The Gambian home side Gamtel supporters biting their nails.
The Gamtel gaffer said, he is not trying to blame anybody but the other reason leading to their elimination was their non-playing in the league while this tournament was on.
“I am not trying to blame anybody but I think our non-play in the league games also counted a lot in our elimination. But nonetheless, it is a game and we have to take it in good faith and prepare for the league,” he added.
Arab Lyes, CS Constantine coach said though they won the game and qualify to the next round, it was very difficult for them because of the climatic condition and the football pitch.
“Nonetheless, the victory goes back to the players because they did it by scoring an early goal and manage to maintain it”.
The defeat means that it is all over for The Gambian representative clubs in the African club championship after both Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) and Gamtel defeats at home in the second-leg of both CAF Champions League and Confederation tournaments.
