Gambia’s most-talked about football fiesta begins

Gambia’s most talked about, followed and fancied football tournament commonly known as Zonals Super Nawettan kicked-off on Friday sponsored by its initiator Gambia Football Federation (GFF).

The opening encounter was between last year champions Sukuta and Manjai on Friday but the Demba-Du boys were beaten 2-0 by Manjai in the first group A match.

Mustapha Jasseh and Abdourahman Barry scored for Manjai in the 82nd and 90th minutes of the game.

In the other games played on Saturday, two newcomers Kombo East and Farato, Busumbala and Yundum joint team (FABY) played goalless in their opening group A game played at the Brikama Box-Ba Mini-Stadium.

The Barra, Essau and Mayamba team (BEM) also shared the points with debutants Jarra and Kiang team (JAKU) after a goalless draw in their opening group B encounter, played at the Serekunda East Park.

Another debutant team, Foni also held Serekunda Central to a goalless encounter in group B match played at the Serekunda West Mini-Stadium.

At the time of going to the press on Sunday, Gunjur were entertaining Brufut at the Serekunda West Mini-Stadium; while Brikama and Lamin were also battling it out at the Brikama Box-Ba Mini-stadium. Serekunda East also welcome Banjul at home in Serekunda East mini-stadium, while Serekunda West host Sanyang in the Manjai mini-stadium.
