Federation International denotation FINA has awarded a one year scholarship program to Gambia’s current top swimmer Modou Lamin Saine to train at the high performance center in Dakar, Senegal.

The 4th Edition of the FINA Scholarships Program is in line with the FINA policy on Development and Universality.

Saine, who is currently Gambia’s 50m butterfly and freestyle champion, yesterday left Banjul international airport to the Senegalese city where he is expected to join other top junior African swimmers for an intensive one year training program.

“I am really happy to win this scholarship from FINA; it means I have been doing well for my country,’’ he told this reporter.

“I will make sure I make the best of the training and also learn from my other colleagues with whom I will be training.’’ added Saine.

FINA has over the years been reviewing the potential of swimmers across five continents with the aim of providing support to national Associations.
